LANGKAWI: There still exists civil servants who are sabotaging the implementation of Pakatan Harapan (PH) government policies following the May 9 change in administration – but they have decreased in number, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

He said the process of ‘cleaning up’ the government of hardcore supporters of the previous administration is ongoing, and cannot be completed overnight, Bernama reported.

“There are still officers who are not committed. For example, there are civil servants who have not been paid for four months (by the saboteurs), when it clearly can be done. “One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch,” he said during a question-and-answer session at the Senior Government Officials Meeting with the Prime Minister at the Langkawi International Convention Centre here, last night.

Dr Mahathir said he will continue to raise the issue of internal sabotage as a reminder to all government servants to carry out their responsibilities honourably.

The prime minister also said veteran civil servants should be tolerant towards new PH appointees who are not as well informed as they are in administrative matters, and to avoid disputes.

“These new people are learning. If you do (not) have any patience, you cannot work together. That is why we need to give and take a little,” he said.

Dr Mahathir added that the new Malaysian government has performed well, although there is still much to do.

“The damage done by the previous leadership was so great, even we were shocked. But now (we have managed to build the country's new) administration, even though it has not yet reached a satisfactory level," he added.

The Prime Minister also noted that the world has acknowledged the accomplishments of Malaysia’s new democratic government.

“(In fact), Pakistan's Prime Minister came here to ask about some of the things that we have done,” Dr Mahathir added.
