I’m happy to see it happen, says Teoh’s ex-fiancée

Former fiancée of Teoh Beng Hock, the former political secretary to Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah, says she is grateful with the decision by the Cabinet to reopen investigations into his death..

When asked for her comment, Soh Cher Wei replied briefly in Chinese via WhatsApp yesterday: “I am happy to see it happen.”

Soh, 37, was two months’ pregnant at the time of Teoh’s death, and later “married” him in an afterworld wedding ceremony.

A school teacher, Soh has been living with her family in Johor together with her son, Teoh Er Jia, who is eight years old now.

Teoh’s mother Teng Shuw Hor said her daughter-in-law would return with Er Jia to spend time with the family during school holidays.

“Er Jia is a big boy now. It is sad as sometimes, he would ask about his father. I would just tell him briefly that he died of persecution.

“He will understand it better when he’s older.

“I really hope the new government will conduct a fair and transparent investigation this time for us to get closure,” Teng, 58, said when contacted.

Although it has been eight difficult years, Teng said she still wanted to see the perpetrators brought to justice.

“We welcome the new government’s action to reopen our son’s case.

“Justice must be served,” she said.

Teng added that the family has almost lost hope of finding the truth but was now grateful with the latest development.

Yesterday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the Attorney General Tommy Thomas would be consulted on how to proceed with the case after the Cabinet gave its green light to reopen investigations.
