PKR’s top leadership today met its imprisoned de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in hospital to seek his views on candidates to be proposed for the new Pakatan Harapan (PH) Cabinet.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that the PKR leaders were meeting Anwar after the first round of discussions among PH leaders for the Cabinet positions.
“For PKR, the input or views from Datuk Seri Anwar is needed. So today, I, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah, Nurul Izzah and Rafizi Ramli and a few other senior leaders selang seli (alternately) gave input and views to Datuk Seri Anwar and the purpose is for tomorrow where we will continue the next round of discussions,” he told the media when met just before leaving the hospital.
The next round of talks on Cabinet positions tomorrow with newly sworn-in Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be at the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) office.
“So tomorrow, PKR represented by Dr Wan Azizah and other leaders will go with views by Datuk Seri Anwar. So the purpose today is for us to collect his views so tomorrow when we attend the meeting, it will take into account his views in forming a new government, specifically in forming the Cabinet,” he said.
“We never presented a list of candidates. The discussion today in the meeting chaired by the prime minister was about the formation of the new government,” he said.
When asked if Anwar was happy with the candidate choices, Saifuddin said that PKR has many qualified leaders and acknowledged the high expectation from the public as this involves the formation of a new government.
“The onus is on PKR to propose the best among the best of PKR leadership for the prime minister to choose.
“Datuk Seri Anwar has a list of many names. He knows the talent, commitment and record among party leaders. He will give the input to choose the best,” he said.
PKR leaders such as Fahmi Fadzil and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad were spotted visiting Anwar, while party deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali was believed to have paid a visit to the latter as well.
