An Australian national has complained that the police have yet to take action against a man who severely attacked him and his Malaysian-born wife, even though more than three months have passed since the assault.
Speaking to FMT, he said he was “bitterly disappointed” that he had not received any justice after an attack that he described as “brutal” and that had traumatised him and his wife. He asked to be identified only as Scott.
Here is the story, as told by Scott and Sandra (not her real name):
It was a case of road rage and it happened on New Year’s Day. They were heading home after ringing in the new year at the Royal Selangor Club in Bukit Kiara. Neither of them had taken any alcohol on that day.
“We were on the extreme right lane of the Sprint Highway,” Scott said. “About 50 metres from the toll booth, I slowed down to take out my SmartTag.”
That’s when a black BMW 5 series rammed into the back of their car.
“I got out of the car and, immediately, a young man charged at me, screaming vulgarities. He knocked me to the ground. He kicked and punched my head and body repeatedly.”
Fearing the worst for her husband, Sandra grabbed a bat and got out of the car. “I decided to take a picture of the man’s car. When he saw that I was holding the bat, he grabbed it from me and started hitting me.”
The man smashed her phone and then dragged her by the hair against the road surface. He hit her several times with the bat, aiming at her face and body.
Scott said the man’s girlfriend got down from their car and begged him to stop the beating. The assailant then got into the car and drove off.
Despite his fractured hand, Scott drove to the Damansara Uptown police station to lodge a police report before seeking medical attention. He required surgery on his right hand.
Scott, his family’s sole breadwinner, was unable to work for three months.
The day after the attack, he and Sandra were called in by an investigating officer (IO) for an identification parade at the Sea Park police station.
“Both me and wife positively identified our attacker. Since then, I have been asking the IO for an update every few days.”
He said police subsequently informed him that the suspect would like to settle the issue by offering to pay for his medical expenses, but he rejected this.
“I don’t want money,” he told FMT. “I want justice. My wife and I have not only suffered injuries but have been traumatised by this brutal attack. It’s been three months and no action has been taken against him.”
FMT has contacted Petaling Jaya police and is waiting for a response.
