‘May her spirit burn in hell’ – Insensitive netizens spew hatred to local comedian for attending his chinese grandmother’s funeral

What is the world coming to these days? Looking at things from a local perspective, racial tensions have risen and the internet serves as an archive for every form of bigotry.

Local comedian and radio announcer, Yazid Lim Aziz more familiar by the name Johan, had posted of the sad day of his grandmother's passing on social media, just days ago.

“I've lost another grandmother… I arrived just in time before they closed her coffin and I managed to see her face for the last time,” he wrote in a caption, posting pictures of his wife and him seeing off the deceased in a hearse.

The reaction that came after from netizens was one that was beyond hurtful.

Muslim followers described their action to pay their last respects at his grandmother's funeral was not in-line with Islamic teachings.

Johan later posted another photo alongside his convert mother, and shared her words with his followers.

“My mother says, to those who condemned us, tell them ‘Although I once ate pork, I’m no fool, neither am I an intellect…but I’m still learning about religion and I know Islam is a religion that does not judge but has judgements.”

He also urged insensitive followers to stop hurting his family members’ feelings in this evidently difficult time.

The irony to this incident is that people mocking the very act sound as if they themselves behold the divine power of Allah.

May the Almighty forgive them and guide them to a better path.
