The 31-year-old mother of two, who is now the coordinator for #March2Freedom, a movement aimed at freeing Anwar, said the petition was a family effort and made on the basis that the conviction failed to adhere to the principles of justice.
"The court may have deemed him guilty, but our father is innocent," she said in a statement today.
"On the initiative of the family, we decided to send a petition to Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Al-Haj Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah based on Article 42 of the Federal Constitution to free out father from jail," the statement read.
On February 10, Anwar was sentenced to five years’ jail after the apex court upheld an earlier court of appeal ruling that reversed his acquittal of sodomising former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
With the verdict, the de facto PKR leader stands to lose his Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat.
The Malaysian law bars anyone fined over RM2,000 or imprisoned more than one year from serving as a lawmaker.
Nurul Nuha today reiterated the family's stance that Anwar was not guilty and that he had been "victimised in charges laced with politics that led to his five-year imprisonment".
"Our father is a political detainee," she said, in the statement.
She said the family have also included in the petition, the facts and circumstances for the Pardon Board's consideration.
"We are putting our faith in this constitutional process and believe that justice will prevail, without any political interference in accordance with the doctrine of the separation of power," she said in a statement today.
Anwar's family led by his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also PKR president, submitted an application for a royal pardon over Anwar's sodomy conviction today.
The deadline is tonight and failing to do so would lead to his disqualification as Permatang Pauh MP.
PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, in distancing the party from the request, had said that the initiative to seek a royal pardon for Anwar was done by the family and not the party.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, in a statement tonight announced that Anwar is still an MP, pending a decision on his petition to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a royal pardon.
